PTA
Our Mission Statement
To raise funds to further the social and educational development of our students at Ysgol Tir Morfa through fun and profitable activities.
About Us
Our PTA formed in July 2015, just three mums who wanted to put on an end of year disco so our boys would have the same social experiences in school as their mainstream peers. Our first event was selling drinks and cakes at the disco, we raised about £80. We are now a team of six, made up of parents, grandparents and school representatives. Last academic year (2016-17), we raised over £3000 for our pupils at Ysgol Tir Morfa.
Helping at events is not for everyone and some people are happy to admit they aren't up for it. Instead they have supported the PTA in other really helpful ways, like approaching local businesses for raffle prizes, putting up posters, booking items for our events and even stuffing envelopes. Although this work is perhaps a bit more ‘behind the scenes’, these volunteers are a crucial part of the team. Being part of the PTA is hard work, we cannot lie, but seeing our students having fun and experiencing school in a way that their mainstream peers get to, is so satisfying and enjoyable and we make money to spend on our pupils. We have paid out for the following activities in the last academic year:
- All classes were given £100.00 to spend on classroom resources. This includes books, colouring pencils and also games, picked by the pupils themselves.
- We have match funded £450.00 for a land survey that will allow our school site to be developed.
- We have purchased footballs and new goal posts for the after school football club.
- We have paid for end of year celebrations for all our pupils, either a class trip or an end of year party in school.
