Taith
Taith Project
Over the past four terms we have been lucky enough to receive Welsh Government funding via the Taith project to enable staff to visit a range of countries in Europe to explore their provision for 16-19 year olds with ALN. To this end we have been able to arrange visits to schools and providers in Sweden, The Netherlands, Denmark, Greece, Finland and Norway.
The focus of the project was:
- Assessment, tracking, target setting, analysis and dissemination
- Post 16-19 and vocational provision
- Independent and Supported living opportunities Post 19
- Gathering and presentation of qualitative assessments that are difficult to measure and may not be of an academic nature
The visits provided a real insight into differing approaches in the various countries whilst also highlighting similar practices to those we use here in Wales. As a consequence of the visits we have been able to enhance on-site work-related provision at school and also seek to extend partnerships with the local business community to provide real-life vocational experiences. We have also implemented bespoke assessments for pupils following a functional pathway and have further developed the 14-19 aspect of the functional curriculum. Further consequences have been more projects with mainstream partners for pupils to be involved, Hydroponic growing in our greenhouse, More enterprise for the gifts shop like using wood and making lamps from donated wood, Candle making as an enterprise, Making use of lavender dried in products for our shop - lavender spray, soap etc and the setting up a supermarket at our Ffordd Derwen site for children to ‘shop’ at prior to community shopping.
Additionally we plan to, widen our range of 3D printing such as ear bud holders, mobile phone holders.
